C. R. Gasper
Founder
Late Mr. C. R. Gasper (1942–2012) was a respected educationist, philanthropist, and social reformer whose contributions extended far beyond the field of education. Along with founding the St. Augustine’s institutions, he also played a significant role in establishing free vernacular-medium schools in Canning, West Bengal, and Narendrapur, Odisha, including the renowned Robert High School.
Mr. Gasper (1942-2012) was an educationist and philanthropist who not only founded his own schools, but also played a key role in establishing free schools in vernacular medium in Canning, West Bengal, and Narendrapur, Orissa. The latter is even named after him, “Robert High School”. He held key positions in various education bodies and social service forums:
Throughout his life, Mr. Gasper held several important positions in educational and social organizations. He served as President and Treasurer of the Association of Heads of Anglo-Indian Schools, West Bengal, and was a member of the State Board of Anglo-Indian Education, West Bengal. He also contributed actively to various educational committees, Catholic institutions, and social service organizations.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and society, he received several prestigious honours, including the Rashtriya Ratan Award (2004), Founder Principal of the Year Award at The Telegraph School Awards (2003), and the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award (2007).
Today, the legacy of Late Mr. C. R. Gasper continues to inspire generations through the enduring values and educational excellence of St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore.
