Augustus Auxesis 2025: A Two-Day Symphony of Talent, Tradition, and Triumph
Every school has traditions that define its spirit. For St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore and Shyamnagar, that tradition is Augustus Auxesis—an annual inter-school fest that has grown into one of the most anticipated cultural events in the city. On November 7th and 8th, 2025, the fest returned for its 8th season, and what unfolded over those two days was nothing short of spectacular. With participation from 23 schools, the event became a kaleidoscope of creativity, collaboration, and youthful enthusiasm. This year’s edition was not just a fest; it was a celebration of imagination, intellect, and artistry, leaving behind memories that will inspire students, teachers, and audiences for years to come.
Day One: The Barrackpore Campus Comes Alive
The first day of Augustus Auxesis 2025 was hosted at the Barrackpore campus, and from the very morning, the atmosphere was electric. Students streamed in, their faces glowing with anticipation, their voices buzzing with excitement. The campus transformed into a carnival of talent, with 22 different competitions spread across classrooms, halls, and open spaces.
A Spectrum of Events
The variety of events reflected the fest’s commitment to nurturing multifaceted talent:
Street Play: Students took to the stage with powerful performances highlighting social issues. Their raw energy and emotive storytelling drew attention to themes that matter, proving that theatre can be a tool for change.
Non-fire Cooking: Creativity found its way into the kitchen, as participants crafted innovative dishes without flames. The event was a reminder that artistry isn’t confined to paintbrushes or scripts—it can be tasted too.
Model United Nations (MUN): A platform for budding diplomats, the MUN tested students’ ability to debate, negotiate, and think critically about global issues.
Unconventional Music: This event pushed boundaries, with students experimenting with sounds, rhythms, and instruments to create something refreshingly new.
Debate & Quiz: Intellectual duels unfolded as students sparred with words and wit, showcasing sharp minds and quick reflexes.
Umbrella Painting & Storytelling: Art and imagination merged as umbrellas became canvases and stories became bridges to new worlds.
Chapel Choir & One-actor Play: Harmony and theatrical brilliance filled the air, proving that even a single voice or performer can captivate an audience.
The Atmosphere
As the competitions unfolded, the campus brimmed with laughter, cheers, and applause. Teachers guided, students supported one another, and judges admired the sheer diversity of talent. The day ended on a high note, filled with appreciation for the immense creativity and camaraderie that defined the fest
Special Guests
The day was elevated by the presence of Sanatan Dinda, a renowned visual artist, who painted a portrait live. His brushstrokes mesmerized the audience, reminding everyone that art is not just about the final product but also about the journey of creation. Actor Rwitobroto Mukherjee, judging the Mystery Act Play, praised the students’ creativity and their ability to weave stories with conviction. His words of encouragement resonated deeply, inspiring participants to continue exploring their artistic spirit
Day Two: A Cultural Extravaganza at Sukanta Sadan
If Day One was about competition, Day Two was about spectacle. The venue shifted to Sukanta Sadan Auditorium, Barrackpore, where the excitement reached new heights. The auditorium buzzed with anticipation as students, teachers, and guests gathered for a day of performances that blended tradition, innovation, and sheer artistry
Inauguration
The programme began with a solemn prayer, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ms. Shweta Ray, Principal of St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, and Rev. Rodney Borneo, Principal of St. Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar, alongside other dignitaries. This symbolic act set the tone for a day steeped in tradition and creativity
Performances That Dazzled
The stage became a canvas for performances that left the audience spellbound: Opening Dance: A serene invocation that created a spiritual atmosphere, calming the buzzing excitement.
Retro Dance: Primary school students revived the charm of the 70s and 80s, their costumes and moves transporting the audience back in time.
Fashion Walk – “Echoes of Epic”: A showstopper event where students embodied mythological figures from global epics. The hall roared with cheers as Arjun from the Mahabharata and Achilles from the Iliad walked the stage, bringing history and myth to life.
Fusion Dance: A breathtaking blend of two Indian classical forms, showcasing how tradition and innovation can coexist beautifully.
Band-e-Mic: The grand finale, fusing eastern semi-classical melodies with western pop, rock, and jazz. The performance electrified the auditorium, leaving the audience in awe
Chief Guest
The day was graced by eminent actor and musician Shaheb Chatterjee, who shared words of encouragement for students and teachers alike. His presence added gravitas to the event, and his appreciation reminded everyone of the importance of nurturing creativity alongside academics
A Starry Finale: Nakash Aziz Live
As excitement peaked, the results of the two days of competition were announced, rewarding weeks of rigorous preparation and rehearsals. Yet the fest had one more surprise in store—a special live performance by Bollywood singer and composer Nakash Aziz. His electrifying renditions had the entire auditorium singing along, clapping, and swaying to the music. From soulful melodies to high-energy tracks, Aziz’s performance elevated the fest to a whole new level. Students were thrilled, exhilarated, and united in song, making the finale unforgettable
Triumphs and Celebrations
As the competitions concluded, anticipation peaked with the announcement of results. Weeks of rehearsals, sleepless nights, and tireless preparation culminated in moments of triumph. For some, victory brought cheers; for others, participation itself was a badge of honor. Yet, for all, the fest was a celebration of effort, creativity, and collaboration. The applause that echoed through Sukanta Sadan was not just for winners but for every student who dared to step on stage, paint a canvas, cook a dish, or speak their mind. The fest celebrated not just talent but courage—the courage to express, to innovate, and to collaborate.
