St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, reverently celebrated the 165th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore with a vibrant cultural programme that paid tribute to his timeless legacy. The event was a harmonious blend of tradition, creativity, and reverence—an ode to the Bard of Bengal whose legacy continues to illuminate minds and hearts.

A Vibrant Tribute to the Bard of Bengal

The programme commenced with the ceremonial showering of petals on Gurudev’s portrait, setting a tone of respect and devotion. The opening performance featured a graceful song-and-dance duet on “Eki Sundoro Shobhā”, captivating the audience with its elegance.

The cultural celebration continued with a powerful line-up of classic Rabindrasangeet and literature:

    • Poetry Recitation: A powerful rendition of the iconic poem “Nirjhorer Swapnabhanga”.
    • Instrumental Performance: A soulful flute rendition of the welcoming track “Esho He Boishakh”.
    • Drama: A delightful and humorous staging based on Tagore’s poem “Juta Abishkar”.
    • Dance Drama: A beautiful performance of “Ae Tabe Sahochori”, portraying the immense depth and richness of Tagore's literary vision.

Special Highlight: Participation by Sampoorna Evening School

A deeply moving segment of the programme was the participation of 30 students from Sampoorna—the evening school for underprivileged girls run under our PTBA initiative. The girls mesmerized the audience with their graceful dance performances and delivered a heartfelt English recitation of “Where the Mind is Without Fear”, beautifully reflecting the universal spirit of Tagore’s ideals.

    Inspiring Visionary Thoughts on Education

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Suparna Sur for her inspiring words during the event. Following this, Principal ma'am addressed the gathering, highlighting the timeless relevance of Rabindranath Tagore. She emphasized how his progressive thoughts on education were far ahead of his time and how they continue to inspire and guide generations of educators and learners alike.

    Fostering Community with Online Celebrations

To ensure maximum participation, a special online programme was simultaneously conducted for both parents and students. It was heartening to witness the enthusiastic involvement of parents, making this momentous community occasion even more meaningful and inclusive.
