At St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, we believe that nurturing young minds also means nurturing a deep respect for nature. To celebrate Van Mahotsav, our students from Pre-Primary to Class XII enthusiastically participated in a week-long series of educational, creative, and environmentally focused activities that inspired them to become responsible caretakers of the planet.
The celebration reflected our commitment to environmental conservation and encouraged students to understand that every small action can contribute to building a greener and more sustainable future.
Inspiring Young Environmentalists
Students from Pre-Primary to Class V celebrated Van Mahotsav through engaging activities that combined creativity, learning, and environmental awareness.
The programme included special assemblies, eco-fashion shows, role plays, and the creation of an Oath Tree, where students pledged to protect nature and conserve the environment. Through an interactive scrapbook activity, they explored the countless benefits that trees provide, while the One-Minute Green Talk encouraged them to share ideas on protecting the environment with confidence and enthusiasm.
Students also participated in the ‘Before & After Earth’ Activity, reflecting on the effects of deforestation and understanding the importance of preserving forests for future generations. These activities helped instill values of responsibility, compassion, and respect for nature from an early age.
Environmental Awareness Through Action :
Students from Classes VI to XII celebrated Van Mahotsav by participating in meaningful initiatives that promoted environmental responsibility within the school and the wider community.
The celebration began with a special assembly featuring an inspiring role play that highlighted the importance of protecting natural resources. Students then took part in an Awareness Walk, spreading messages about tree conservation and environmental protection throughout the local community.
A Plantation Drive encouraged students to actively contribute to creating greener surroundings, while the Poster Making Competition provided a platform to express their creativity and commitment to environmental sustainability.
Scouts, Guides, and Community Participation :
The Scouts and Guides of St. Augustine’s Day School played a significant role in making the celebration a success by actively participating in the awareness campaign and plantation drive.
Adding further significance to the event, personnel from the Barrackpore Police Station joined the programme and encouraged students in their efforts to protect the environment. Their presence motivated students to recognise that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that requires the support of the entire community.
As a meaningful gesture of hope and sustainability, students distributed saplings, inspiring families and community members to plant and nurture more trees.
Building a Greener Tomorrow :
Van Mahotsav at St. Augustine’s Day School was more than just a celebration—it was a valuable learning experience that empowered students to become environmentally conscious citizens.
By combining education with practical action, the programme encouraged students to appreciate the importance of biodiversity, tree conservation, and sustainable living. Through every pledge, plantation, presentation, and awareness activity, our young Augustinians demonstrated that even small efforts can create a lasting impact on the environment.
As we continue to promote environmental education alongside academic excellence, we remain committed to inspiring future generations to protect nature and contribute towards a healthier, greener, and more sustainable world.
